America's small businesses, particularly those owned by women and minorities, are getting substantial customer development assistance from trade associations and local and state chambers of commerce, according to an Access to Markets: How Business Owners Acquire Customers Survey, released by Access America, the U.S. Chamber's women and minority outreach initiative. Survey findings also indicate that identifying contracting opportunities and understanding the contracting process itself are areas that many minority and women business owners still find challenging.
