The Partnership
Dear Longview Chamber Member,

Thank you for investing in the Longview Chamber of Commerce and its efforts to make our community a great place to do business. Your annual membership dollars are hard at work:
· creating a strong economy;
· promoting the community;
· providing networking opportunities;
· representing the interests of business with government; and
· building community leadership and development programs.

It is solely through your dollars that the Chamber operates within the Longview Partnership. When you really think about it, we are the front door to the Longview community, and your partnership with us clearly illustrates how strong communities depend on strong businesses.

Background Information

Did you know that active Chamber membership defines you as a Longview community leader? In fact, you are in partnership with other stakeholders in Longview who are doing for our community what other people think simply happens. It takes everyday business people like you to create our strong local economy. Today, more than ever, you are a key player in making Real East Texas Living so attractive to the nation.

You already know, as a valued Longview Chamber member, how the Longview Partnership continues to bring our community's diverse constituents together. The building we occupy has hosted more than 220 meetings just in the past twelve months. Important discussions held behind these walls continue to directly impact the quality of life Longview’s citizens and workforce both experience and enjoy.

Conveniently located in downtown Longview, the Partnership building simultaneously accommodates multiple meetings and has become a physical symbol of community pride. It is also frequented by strangers and friends alike seeking information on Longview.

The Problem

Let’s face it: our building is this organization’s greatest asset for more reasons than one. As good stewards over the years, we have made substantial capital improvements to ensure its sustainability and long-term use for the express purposes of meeting the Longview Partnership’s mission: to engage in and promote projects that have a positive impact on the Longview Trade Area. The truth is, in order to continue doing so, we need to secure $100,000 in emergency support from the Chamber membership by October 4.

The East retaining wall in the parking lot is cracking and sink holes in the asphalt have appeared due to inadequate drainage in the parking lot.  As a result, when it rains all excess water sits on the asphalt against the east retaining wall and spills over into the parking lot and neighbors’ property.  Left unrepaired, the asphalt and retaining wall will give way and more excessive problems to the parking lot and neighbors’ property will arise.  In order to correct the problem 110 feet of retaining wall will be replaced, concrete will be put in place of the asphalt along the new retaining wall and additional drainage will be added to stop the excess water from flooding the parking lot and neighbors’ property.

The Solution

After carefully weighing our options, the Board of Directors has decided that it is in the best interest of the Longview Partnership that the suggested repairs be made to the retaining wall and paving. We’re hoping you’ll agree. Consider the consequences: failure to address these issues could very well jeopardize our building’s value (as well as that of adjacent properties), our ability to meet the organization’s mission, and the image of the community businesses we represent.

Please join us today as we commit our financial support to this important capital improvements project together.  Consider a minimal contribution in the amount of one-half your annual membership investment towards this project.  We can’t think of a better gift to give our community on behalf of the businesses that make things happen in Longview. Download the commitment form to expedite your response to this urgent need.  We’re counting on you!

Sincerely,

Executive Committee, LP Board of Directors
