Background Information
Conveniently located in downtown Longview, the Partnership building simultaneously accommodates multiple meetings and has become a physical symbol of community pride. It is also frequented by strangers and friends alike seeking information on Longview.
Let’s face it: our building is this organization’s greatest asset for more reasons than one. As good stewards over the years, we have made substantial capital improvements to ensure its sustainability and long-term use for the express purposes of meeting the Longview Partnership’s mission: to engage in and promote projects that have a positive impact on the Longview Trade Area. The truth is, in order to continue doing so, we need to secure $100,000 in emergency support from the Chamber membership by October 4.
The East retaining wall in the parking lot is cracking and sink holes in the asphalt have appeared due to inadequate drainage in the parking lot. As a result, when it rains all excess water sits on the asphalt against the east retaining wall and spills over into the parking lot and neighbors’ property. Left unrepaired, the asphalt and retaining wall will give way and more excessive problems to the parking lot and neighbors’ property will arise. In order to correct the problem 110 feet of retaining wall will be replaced, concrete will be put in place of the asphalt along the new retaining wall and additional drainage will be added to stop the excess water from flooding the parking lot and neighbors’ property.
The Solution
After carefully weighing our options, the Board of Directors has decided that it is in the best interest of the Longview Partnership that the suggested repairs be made to the retaining wall and paving. We’re hoping you’ll agree. Consider the consequences: failure to address these issues could very well jeopardize our building’s value (as well as that of adjacent properties), our ability to meet the organization’s mission, and the image of the community businesses we represent.
