UPDATE:

Hwy 149/I20 Project- Barricades will be set the week of July 25th. Construction is set for October 1st and should be complete by May. The proposed signage on Hwy 149 will be included in this project. Longview Bridge & Road is the contractor. Project Plans 1, Project Plans2
149- Gutters will need to be poured for the drop off but the lane will be reopened in time for the heavy traffic on Friday for the Balloon Race.
Loop 281 Project- this project is 68% complete. The plan is to be done by Thanksgiving. There was a problem with the water lines along the medians being cut resulting in the loss of much of the landscaping. TxDOT says they will make sure the landscaping is redone by the end of the project.

Thanks to Dave Spurrier and Brian Bunt, IH20 Signage is about to be improved. The new signage will more clearly direct visitors into the city, downtown Longview, both hospitals, the airport, and Amtrak. Take a look at the power point presentation.

September 23, 2009 the House voted 335-85 to suspend the rules, and passed a three month extension of funding for the federal Highway Trust Fund, throwing down the gauntlet in the face of Senate leadership and the Obama administration, which prefer an 18 month extension to avoid debating how for pay for a six year, $500 billion reauthorization which is not supported by motor fuel taxes at present rates. -Associated Press Copy

Transportation is Your Business Fly-In
On July 14-15 Longview Partnership staff and Business Advocacy Committee vice-chair, Keith Honey, participated in the U.S. Chamber's Transportation Fly-In in Washington, D.C. At issue: the Highway Trust Fund and the looming expiration of the nation's core surface transportation programs, which is set for September 30th. The Longview Partnership met with Congressman Louie Gohmert, staff from Senator John Cornyn, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison regarding reauthorization of the law and future funding for the trust fund.

The city of Longview Streets Bond Proposal has passed-
Issuance of a $52,600,000 bond for the purpose of constructing, improving, extending, expanding, upgrading, and developing streets and roads, bridges and intersections including, utility relocation, landscaping, sidewalks, traffic safety and operational improvements, the purchase of any necessary right-of-way, drainage and other related costs.
