LeTourneau University and Longview Independent School District Proudly Announce Author and Historian Andrew Roberts whose new book, Churchill:  Walking With Destiny, is taking the literary world by storm and Former Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush, Karl Rove to visit Gregg County on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019.

Please join us in supporting a major event for East Texas on Tuesday, February 19th.  LeTourneau University and Longview Independent School District will be jointly hosting a visit and lectures by distinguished author, historian, public speaker and educator Professor Andrew Roberts.  His most recent book, “Churchill: Walking With Destiny”, is taking the literary world by storm.  Of the more than 1000 books written about Winston Churchill, many are saying that this is the definitive work.  And he has chosen Longview and Gregg County as the only East Texas stop on his world tour.

Joining Professor Roberts for the day will be his good friend Karl Rove, former advisor to President George W. Bush, prominent commentator on public affairs, author and educator. Both Professor Roberts and Mr. Rove will teach classes at LeTourneau University on Tuesday morning.  These are not open to the public.

Professor Roberts will then give a lecture on the LeTourneau University campus at 11:00 AM.  The title of his presentation is, not surprisingly, “Churchill: Walking with Destiny’.  He will be introduced by Karl Rove.   Attendance at this event is open to the public on a space available basis and is free of charge.  Plans are being made for it to be broadcast live over the Internet.  Sponsors of the event will receive reserved seating tickets for this event.

Following the lecture there will be a luncheon in the Allen Family Student Center at LeTourneau University where both Karl Rove and Andrew Roberts will speak. Sponsors will receive luncheon tickets as part of their sponsorship package.  If available, tickets will be made available for purchase to the general public for $25 each.  It is expected that the luncheon will be sold out.

Following the luncheon they will visit the site of the origin of the “Big Inch” pipeline in Longview - the pipeline that carried the East Texas oil that the Allies used in WWII.  Dwight Eisenhower famously said that “the Allies floated to victory on a sea of East Texas oil”.

They will then visit the campus of Longview High School and address 1100 high school students from both public and private schools from all over northeast Texas. Roberts’ topic is-- “Winston Churchill’s Many Brushes with Death and What They Taught Him’.  Each participating school is being asked to send in advance a question or two to be answered by Professor Roberts and Mr. Rove from the stage.  This event is not open to the public but will be live streamed on LISD’s Facebook page.  Each participating school will be given a signed copy of Professor Roberts book “Churchill: Walking With Destiny” for their school library.  The public is invited at 3:15 PM to a dual book signing at Barron’s where Andrew Roberts will sign copies of his book “Churchill: Walking with Destiny” and Karl Rove will sign copies of his book “The Triumph of William McKinley”.  This event is open to the public. (405 W. Loop 281, Longview, Texas 75605).

The final event for the day is a ticketed VIP reception for major donors that will be held at Café Barron’s from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.

If you wish to be part of this wonderful day for East Texas, please help support these events by becoming a sponsor at some level.  The enclosed reply card lists the sponsorship levels and the perks and benefits of each level. Your contribution is tax deductible for Federal Income Tax purposes and can be made from either personal or corporate funds.  Fill out and return the enclosed response form along with your check made payable to “LeTourneau University” with the notation  “Andrew Roberts Lecture”.  Your tickets for the 11:00 AM lecture and the luncheon (and VIP reception tickets if appropriate) along with a full schedule of the day’s events will be delivered to you.  Any funds collected in excess of final expenditures will be retained by LeTourneau University to fund their educational programs.
