Leadership Longview FAQ
Why should I apply for Leadership Longview?
Leadership Longview (LL) offers an opportunity for participants to gain an inside look at some of Longview’s unique organizations; meet with local businesses, government and civic leaders; and enhance their professional networks. Class members will have the opportunity to:
- Create a network of close contacts among classmates, alumni, chairmen and guest speakers
- Meet with some of the top local leaders in Gregg County
- Discuss community issues and exchange ideas with the class and community experts
- Improve personal leadership and teamwork skills by working on a class project to benefit our community
- Be seen as current/emerging leaders within their own organizations and the community
- Identify areas of interest and opportunity for personal involvement in community organizations and boards
What do the class days consist of?
Each class day is unique as we learn about that section of Longview. All days start at 8:00 am and include leadership training, speakers, tours and group discussion. There is quite a bit of walking and each day is designed to be very full and eye opening. The days end at 5:00 and include lunch.
If I cannot attend all the program days can I still participate?
Attendance is mandatory for the overnight retreat and project day in April. Also, participants are not permitted to miss more than 10 hours total. If a participant is unable to attend the opening retreat and closing session in full, or miss more than 10 hours, you will be asked to withdraw from the program. We understand that unexpected circumstances do arise, however, to be fair to all, we cannot make exceptions. In the event that an excused absence is necessary from the project day for military deployment, a medical emergency or a death in the family, and you’ve met all other program requirements, we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Is Leadership Longview appropriate for those with physical limitations?
Yes. We encourage applicants to apply regardless of physical limitations. All physical activities are “challenge by choice” and are designed so that all individuals can meaningfully contribute to the best of their ability. We welcome and encourage input so we can provide class member with the ability to engage and learn.
How do I best complete the application process?
The application deadline this year is May 31, 2019 at 5 pm. . We encourage applicants to begin their application well before the deadline, using the time to consider their accomplishments, goals for their workplace and community and what they hope to gain for themselves and those they interact with through participation in the LL program.
Take your time considering your answers to each question and be sure you present yourself positively. Carefully read through the checklist to be sure you have submitted everything required. We recommend that the application and two reference letters be submitted electronically.

Tuition for each participant in Leadership Longview is $1,450 for Longview Chamber of Commerce members and $1,950 for non-members. You will be encouraged to serve on a committee for Leadership Longview after graduation as part of the Alumni. Tuition is payable upon notification of acceptance and must be received no later than August 30, 2019.
How is financial assistance or scholarship awarded?
Financial assistance may be available on a limited basis. Those seeking assistance should fill out the scholarship section on the application and attach a letter explaining the reason. Awards are up to half of the tuition cost based on need, the number of requests received, and the amount of funds available each year. Selection into the program is made without regard to financial circumstances. Requests for financial assistance are confidential and have no bearing on the selection process. A request is considered only after the selection process is completed and will not influence the consideration of your application.
