Impacting 67 Families Through Raising Highly Capable Kids™ Parenting Class at Ware East Texas Montessori Academy

A total of 67 parents have graduated from the highly acclaimed Raising Highly Capable Kids™ parenting class at Ware East Texas Montessori Academy.  The fifth semester graduates on December 10, 2019.   Spear-headed by the Longview Chamber of Commerce as part of their partnership with Ware East Texas Montessori Academy, the Chamber will recognize its fifth graduating class of seven parents who have completed the 13-week curriculum.  That brings the total of all Longview participants who have completed the program to 67!  Created by non-profit organization Rezilient Kidz™, this program teaches parents about Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets with the end goal of raising healthy, caring, and responsible children.   The parents listened to presentations, held discussions, and engaged in activities to help them apply what they learned into their own homes.

Ware East Texas Montessori Academy’s Principal Patricia Duck states, “As parents, we all face parenting challenges and ‘Raising Highly Capable Kids’ has provided our parents with an opportunity to spend 13 weeks with other parents and training facilitators in facing those challenges and gaining a better perspective on raising their children. This program will not only have a lasting impact on the parents that participated, but their children, our school, and our community.”

Eleven business leaders from various companies volunteered their time to facilitate the classes throughout the semester and to assist with childcare for the parents.  Raising Highly Capable Kids™ is one piece of the Chamber’s Career Ready Plus Certified Campus partnership with Ware.  The Chamber’s goal is to engage business leaders, such as the program’s presenting sponsor U.S. Title Company, in schools so our community can help equip our students with career-readiness skills.  Doing so will strengthen the future economy of Longview.

The Spring semester of Raising Highly Capable Kids™ will begin February 4, 2020, at Ware East Texas Montessori Academy, and is open to all LISD school parents.  Classes are provided in English and Spanish.  For more information on facilitating or attending the Spring semester, please contact Ana Arroyo, Special Projects and Business Development Coordinator, at the Longview Chamber of Commerce, at 903.237.4009 or aarroyo@longviewtx.com.
